the wise man built his house upon the Rock

Yesterday we went outside and sat on the foundation in the middle of the great room.   We talked about how sturdy the builders had built our foundation for this new house, and why it was important that they do so.  I asked the kids why it would be important to have a sturdy house and they replied.

"So when storms come, it won't blow over that easy."      Chandler
"Because it wouldn't be as strong if we just started building it with no support."     Kaleb
"To make it strong."    Ty

Then, we went on to talk about how important it is that we build our life on the foundation of God's Word.  And if we consciously build our life with a firm foundation in God, that all of these things will stand true with lives, just as they do with our earthly home.   Then, we talked about how we could pray for our "life" foundation, and we wrote down our words with Sharpies on the actual foundation.   I find peace knowing that these words, and the prayers of my sweet children will forever be underneath our feet, and part of our foundation.  I look forward to adding prayers to the boys' area when upstairs is underway.   Here's a few of our prayers for our new home:

I'm surrounded by studs

lol.... and it IS a good thing!   The downstairs is completely framed up and the upstairs is beginning to get some work this week.   I placed the order for the doors and windows, picked out all plumbing/faucets/bathroom fixtures, etc., and we picked out the brick and shingles.  Hmmm... I guess that leaves lighting, countertops, and just a few other big things to tackle.   The cosmetic stuff is way more difficult than the other choices.  Especially if it's something that's not easily changed in a few years!

Here's some pics....

This first one is from when they first started framing.   This is the back corner porch.  The plan calls for this one to be screened, but for right now we are going to leave it open.  All four porches on this house are covered by the roof.

This is the back of the corner porch and the keeping room.  The big hole in it is for the fireplace.  It will have two windows on either side, and a built in corner computer desk.

This next pic is the covered back porch, of which will hopefully give way to my future POOL area.   (Hey... I can hope, right?)  The door will be a quad with french doors.

The kitchen.  Or half of it.   The rounded corner is the pantry.   Then there's the laundry area and mud room.

The laundry area has it's own covered entryway.

This next area is the mudroom, or entryway from the garage.   It will house lockers for each child....maybe all 6 of us if I can fit it in.  Or something like this:

This is the stair case, and behind it will be the stairwell closet.
I am standing in the great room, looking into the dining room on the left, and the foyer on the right.

This is from the entry of the master bedroom

This is looking into the master bath.  My tub goes in the space to the right.  Toilet "box" is behind it.  Closet opening behind the toilet room, and LaTrelle's shower to the left.

This will be the view from Ramsi Kate's window seat.

Ramsi Kate's closet, and window in her little closet.   Isn't that the cutest thing?

Hard to tell, but this is RK's little tiny bath.   Tiniest in the whole house, but I'm pretty sure she'll be the tiniest member!  I can't wait to show you the other stuff I've picked out for it.   A special little girly toilet and fancy princess-y fixtures.

This is the hallway off of the foyer that leads to RK's room and bath.

The foyer...
The dining room.   To the left is a furniture niche for a nice new china cabinet.  ;)
So I climbed up the ladder left by the builders and took some neat pictures from overhead.   Thank God I didn't fall and crack my head open!

Now I'm standing in the great room looking into the kitchen.  The keeping room is to the left of the kitchen there..
and final updated pic... from the front.   The slab in the front right is the garage.  Not sure when they frame it??

Foundation is blocked up

The cement blocking guys took a whole week!    Now the McCaleb's are back filling in and leveling out the foundation, getting it ready for cement.
