May 2011

May was mostly at a standstill.  Tuscaloosa was devastated by tornadoes, and much of our work came to a halt.  We were busy volunteering in town, while trying to keep up with baseball/softball.  We still had no power, and still don't have power (June 12th.)   Of course, we completely understand the work that Alabama Power has been confronted with, and are NOT complaining!   We are so blessed to be trying to finish our new home while some people are struggling just to repair/find a new home.   We can absolutely wait!

Here's what went on in the latter part of May/first of June:

April 2011

April brought on many challenges to our building project.  First, when you are contracting your own home, and baseball/softball season gets in full swing, it's really hard to find the time to complete projects!  We barely had any free moments to do anything, much less work on the house.  Then, on April 27th, 2011, Tuscaloosa County was hit with the most devastating tornadoes in the history of Alabama.  Our home was on hold for 2 weeks or better.   Here's what happened in April:

The great room fireplace was finished:

The floors started being installed:
 Laundry room
 Mud/entry way area.
Standing in the foyer, looking through the dining room into the kitchen and keeping room.

Kaleb and Ty's bathroom floor.... laid by my parents.

Looking down from the 2nd floor balcony.

Our one carpeted room is the 3rd floor bonus room.  It is going to be the kids' Wii/TV/play area, so we thought carpet would work best and keep down the noise!   lol
Late April brought tile work:  The tile around my tub is complete and LaTrelle's "man cave" shower is done.  The shower has turned out to be one of my favorite things about the house so far.   Kudos to Carver Tile!

Paint!!!!

My sweet husband and sister in law painted the house this week!   I helped a little bit, but then we quickly realized that the children shouldn't really be unattended!   lol

Exterior work... vinyl and bricking

Brick and sheetrock

I haven't updated since December!  (and was reminded by my mother to do so!  lol)   January was slow and difficult.   The weather was horrible and it snowed and stayed very icy for days, which is not very condusive for brick work.

February was full of sheet rock.
